The Canisius softball team dropped a pair of games on Saturday to the Italian National Team, falling by scores of 1-0 and 13-8. The Golden Griffins played the Italian National Team in Forli, Italy as part of the Blue and Gold's foreign tour.
In the first game, Italy scored the game's only run in the bottom-half of the sixth on an RBI-single. Canisius graduate Jen Consaul was the tough-luck loser in the circle for the Griffs after she allowed just one run on four hits through six innings. She also fanned two.
Seniors Michelle DelPrince and Robin Kennery each had a hit in the loss for the Griffs, while junior Alexis Roman and sophomore Jessica Berzins and Samantha Sharkey also added base knocks.
In the second game, Italy jumped out to an early 9-1 lead before Canisius rallied with three runs in the fifth, three more in the sixth and a a single run in the seventh. The Griffs had 13 hits in the nightcap loss, led by Roman, who went 4-for-5 with a double, and RBI and a run scored. Berzins recorded three hits and scored twice for the Blue and Gold while junior Meghan Cuda went 2-for-3 with an RBI, a run scored and two stolen bases. Canisius sophomore Sarah Andrews took the loss in the circle for the Griffs.
Canisius is scheduled to play two games against the Forli club team in Forli Stadium on Sunday, July 20.
