The Canisius softball team closed out its 2014 Italian Tour with a pair of wins on Thursday, as the Golden Griffins defeated Roma 15-1 in five innings before beating the home squad 4-0 in five innings in the nightcap. The Griffs went 3-3 in their six games overseas.
In the first game, sophomore Sarah Andrews earned the win in the circle after she went three innings and allowed a run on one hit while striking out three. Jen Consaul tossed two scoreless innings and gave up just one hit while fanning four.
The Blue and Gold racked up 12 hits in the win against Roma's pitching, with four players recording multi-hit efforts in the game one victory. Consaul went 2-for-2 with a three-run home run and five RBIs, while Valorie Nappo added two hits and two RBI to the winning cause. Senior Robin Kennery went 2-for-4 with two runs batted in and a stolen base and junior Meghan Cuda went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and two steals.
Sophomore Sam Sharkey went 1-for-2 with two RBI and three runs scored for the Griffs while senior Michelle DelPrince added a double.
In the second game, Consaul threw a five-inning no-hitter and stuck out nine as Canisius scored a 4-0 win. Sophomore Jessica Berzins went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI in the win, while junior Tori Nappo added a hit and an RBI to the Griffs' efforts.
