Golf Wraps Up Fall Season

The Canisius College golf team closed out the 2011 fall season Tuesday afternoon as the Golden Griffins took part in the final round of The Connecticut Cup at Ellington Ridge Country Club in Ellington, Conn. The Blue and Gold shot a team score of 309 in the final round and finished tied for 14th in the field.

Junior Joe Vogl posted a score of 75 to lead the Griffs' charge. He finished tied for 56th in the event. Fellow junior Mike Spiotta was the team's top finisher after he carded a three-round total of 229 for the 54-hole event to tie for 33rd.

Sacred Heart won the team portion of The Connecticut Cup, which was hosted by UConn. The Pioneers shot a 54-hole score of 882, which was one stroke better than second-place Rhode Island. Host UConn placed third, while Houston Baptist and Hartford rounded out the top-five. Houston Baptist's Jeffery Merrell won the individual title after he finished the three rounds with a score of 214, which was two-under par.
