Canisius College golf coach Todd Hummel announced today that Brendan Polsin, Andrew Romano and Zachary Soccio-Marandola will join the Golden Griffins' golf program for the 2012-13 season.

"Our program is continuing to improve each year, and I feel these three young men will help play a role in taking us to the next level," Hummel said. "All three of these guys have played at a high level both on the regional and national scale, and their experience so far into their playing careers will only do positive things for Canisius College golf."

Polsin is a four-year letterwinner at C.W. Baker High School and last fall, he placed second in a field of 88 golfers at the Section III Class AA Championship to earn a spot in the New York State High School Tournament later this spring. A two-time winner of the Lancaster Country Club men's championship, Romano won the Section VI golf championship as an eighth grader and he closed out his high school career with three top-five finishes at the ECIC Championship event, highlighted by his win in 2011. A member of the Junior PGA, he took fourth place in the 2010 New York State Junior Amateur Championship and ended up tied for eighth at the 2011 New York State Junior Amateur Championship event. The son of Tom and Belmaries Romano, he has one brother, Tommy.

Soccio-Marandola has earned three varsity letters on the Denis Morris Catholic Secondary School varsity golf team and he has played as the No. 1 in both his junior and senior seasons. A team captain, he won two tournament titles in 2011, highlighted by his first-place finish at the city championship and his second-place finish at the Southern Ontario Championship. He qualified for the 2011 Ontario Junior Championships and holds eight career top-10 finishes as a member of the Niagara District Junior Tour, where he finished fifth in the NDJT juvenile standings. He posted two top-three finishes on the New York State Junior Tour in the summer of 2011, and he represented Team Niagara in the Golden Horse Shoe Cup in 2010.
