Golf Ends Weekend Stay at Fireline Invitational

The Canisius College golf team shot a final round score of 308 and junior Michael Carrig shot a three-over 75 on the final day of the 14th annual Fireline Invitational at Prospect Bay Country Club in Grasonville, Md. The Golden Griffins ended the 54-hole event with a team score of 922 to earn a tied for 19th place in the field with Colgate.

Freshman Pat Fahey was the team's top individual performer, as he ended the three-day tournament tied for 65th in the field with his score of 229. Carrig closed out his weekend tied for 80th overall with a 232 and fellow junior Mike Spiotta shot 234 to tie for 91st.


Northern Colorado and Seton Hall shared the team title, as both squads posted a score of 871. Navy and Penn State tied for third with scores of 879 and Binghamton rounded out the top-five in the team scoring with a tally of 883. Loyola (Md.) golfer Jay Mulieri posted a three-under 69 on Sunday and won the individual title with a 209, which was seven under par for the event.


Canisius will return to the course April 7-8 at the Rutherford Intercollegiate event, hosted by Penn State University in State College, Pa.
