Golf Places 12th at Penn State Tournament

The Canisius College golf team placed 12th in the field and junior Michael Carrig posted a 29th-place finish overall as the Golden Griffins closed out their trip to the Rutherford Intercolliegate at Penn State's Blue Course on Sunday afternoon.

Carrig posted a three-round total of 233, highlghted by a 75 in the second round. Senior Stephen Seeler tied for 33rd after he posted a 75 in the final round and a 235 for the weekend and junior Mike Spiotta tied for 45th overall with his three-round tally of 238. Brad Boyle, a member of the Indiana University of Pennsylvania golf team, won the individual crown with his score of 219, which ended up six-over par for the tournament.

The 54-hole event, which got a late start on Saturday because of frost, wrapped up with Bowling Green winning the team title with a score of 901. IUP took second with a score of 908, while Delaware (912), Miami (Ohio) (917) and the host Penn State Nittany Lions (920) rounded out the top five.

Canisius will return to the course Friday, April 13, when the team takes part in the Detroit Titan Invite, presented by Seeler Engineering. The 54-hole event at Prestwick Vollage Golf Club in Highland, Mich., will see the first two rounds get under way on Arpil 13 and wrap up on April 14.
