Golf Team Takes Eighth at Detroit Invitational

The Canisius College golf team placed eighth overall and junior Mike Spiotta placed 10th in the field at the Detroit Invitational at the Prestwick Village Golf Club in Highland, Mich.

Spiotta shot a 75 in the final round for a 54-hole total of 219. Teammates Michael Carrig and Stephen Seeler posted 78s on Saturday for a three-round score of 230, which tied the juniors for 33rd overall.


As a team, Canisius shot a 307 in the final round for a three-round total of 907. Loyola (Chicago) won the team title with a score of 865 and Western Illinois golfer Kurt Slattery won the individual crown with his score of 209, highlighted by his 66 on Saturday.


The golf team will return to action April 27-29, when the Griffs take part in the 2012 MAAC Golf Championships at the Magnolia Course in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
