Golf Sits in Fourth at Leo Keenan Invite

Canisius freshman David Berkun fired an even-par score of 70 and sophomore teammate Brendan Polsin shot a career-low 73 as the Golden Griffin golf team opened play at the 25th annual Leo Keenan Invitational at Bartlett Country Club in Olean, N.Y., Monday. The Griffs posted a team score of 295, which placed the team fourth behind Robert Morris, LIU-Brooklyn and Humber College from Canada.

Canisius is just eight strokes back as a team after the first 18 holes thanks to Berkun's score of 70. In his fourth career round as a college golfer, the Getzville, N.Y., native went out in 37 but fired a 33 on the back for his low score of the fall season. He is currently tied for second with two other golfers. Polsin is tied for 10th after day one thanks to his 73, which is three-over par.

Robert Morris leads the event after day one with a team score of 287. LIU-Brooklyn posted a team score of 292, while Humber College (294), Canisius (295) and host St. Bonaventure (298) round out the top-five in the field. Daemen (302), Drexel (304), Seneca (307) and Niagara (312) sit in places six through nine. Daemen's Tom Romano leads the event after the first day with his score of 69.

The second and final round of the Leo Keenan Invitational is set to tee off at 9 a.m., Tuesday morning.
