The St. Bonaventure Bonnies secured their 38th Little Three Championship on Saturday afternoon with a team score of 584, which was nine strokes better than the Canisius College Golden Griffins. The Griffs placed second with a team tally of 593 while Niagara finished last with a team score of 635. The event was hosted by St. Bonaventure and was held at Pine Acres Country Club in Bradford, Pa.
The Bonnies jumped out to an early lead, as the host school posted a team score of 290 after round one, highlighted by Darren Simons' five-under par score of 67. Simons won the individual crown and a berth into the 2014 Porter Cup with his two-round score of 140 (67-73).
Canisius sophomore Brendan Polsin finished third in the field with his score of 148 (73-75) while fellow sophomore Andrew Romano tied for fourth with a 36-hole score of 150 (75-75). Two Griffs, freshman Cory Cullen and sophomore Hunter Sagar, ended in a four-way tie for sixth in the field, as both players shot a two-round score of 151. Cullen posted an 80 after his first round but rebounded by carding a two-under par 70 in the second round.
Canisius and St. Bonaventure combined to secure 11 of the top-12 finishes on final leaderboard. Niagara's Jackson Lizardo took 11th in the field with his score of 154 (79-75).
The Griffs will close out the 2013 fall season Oct. 6-7 at the Binghamton Fall Invitational.
