The Canisius volleyball team bounced back with a three-set sweep at Quinnipiac University on Sunday afternoon. The Golden Griffins won 25-17, 25-19, 25-16 to improve to 5-4 in the MAAC.
Canisius matched its season-high with a .292 attack percentage, with senior Roxanne Hernandez recording seven kills on 12 attack attempts as four Golden Griffins posted at least five kills in the match. Senior Sydney Palka and sophomore Grace Streicher combined for 30 assists.
"It was nice to have our team come back with a road win," Canisius coach Cathy Hummel said. "We received contributions from a number of players and had a good team win."
The Griffs didn’t trail in either of the first two sets and jumped out to a quick 11-2 lead in the opening set. The Bobcats would cut it to 21-17, but Canisius won the last four points, including kills from Hernandez and freshman Jacklyn Malusa, to take the opening set.
In the second set, the Griffs took control midway through the set using a 5-1 run, including back-to-back service aces from Streicher, to go up 15-9. Quinnipiac answered with a 5-1 run to make it 16-14 but Canisius came right back with a 4-1 run that featured kills from sophomore Rachel Kline and freshman Katlyn Tyler, to go up 20-15. The Griffs won the second set on a solo block from sophomore Lauren Siebert.
