The Canisius volleyball team travels to the state of Washington for the first time in program history this weekend. The Golden Griffins will face Montana State, host Gonzaga and Grand Canyon. 


NOTING THE GRIFFS

  • Canisius enters the Gonzaga Invitational with an 0-3 record. Last weekend, the Golden Griffins lost in three sets to Ole Miss, fell in five sets to Lehigh and then lost in three sets to host Buffalo at the UB Invitational.
  • Junior Rachel Kline averaged 3.36 kills per set last weekend in the three matches, including a career-high 17 kills in the match against Lehigh.
  • Freshman Kristin Bendy earned All-Tournament Team honors after averaging 2.27 kills per set and hit .322 in three matches. Bendy recorded 11 kills on 19 swings against Ole Miss in her collegiate debut.
  • Junior Grace Streicher posted a career-high 40 assists in the match against Lehigh.
  • Junior Jordan Tylec had a career-high 10 digs against Lehigh, posting double-digit digs for the first time in her career.
  • Senior Olivia Chrzanowski played two sets at libero in the match against Lehigh for the first time in her career and recorded a career-best 14 digs.
  • Streicher and Kline each posted a double-double against Lehigh, the fifth double-double for each of the juniors in their careers. 

LOOK AT WEEKEND'S OPPONENTS

  • Canisius and Gonzaga met in the Ruby's Montana Invitational at the University of Montana in 2007, with the Bulldogs winning in three sets. Montana State and Grand Canyon are first-time opponents.
  • Gonzaga enters the weekend with a 2-1 record. The Bulldogs defeated Boise State and Portland State in four sets last weekend while falling to Washington in five sets.
  • Montana State starts the weekend with a 1-2 record. The Bobcats were swept by Utah and Missouri State while defeating New Mexico State in four sets.
  • Grand Canyon opened the season by sweeping the Texas Southern University Invitational. The Antelopes defeated Prairie View A&M, Texas Southern and New Orleans in three sets.
