Three Fairfield University players were credited with double-digit kills as the Stags dropped the Canisius College volleyball team in three-straight games on Saturday night by scores of 25-30, 27-30, 20-30. The loss drops Canisius to 3-12 overall, 1-3 in the MAAC. The win moves the Stags to 13-9 overall, 5-1 in the MAAC.
Fairfield senior Joanne Saunders (Saratoga, Calif.) and junior Conny Paul (Wurzburg, Germany) each had a game-high 16 kills, helping the Stags pick up their fourth straight conference win. Paul, who was selected as the preseason MAAC Player of the Year, finished the night with a .355 hitting percentage, hitting 16 kills in 31 attack attempts with just five errors.
Fairfield sophomore Laurie Brands (Coos Bay, Ore.) added 12 kills in the win, while senior setter Meghan Mahaffy (Boring, Ore.) collected a game-high 42 assists.
Freshman Christina Wildes (Long Beach, N.Y.) led the Golden Griffins with nine kills. Fellow freshman Kim Hoffman (West Babylon, N.Y.) scored six kills in the losing effort, while sophomore Nicole Lucie (Lancaster, N.Y.) led the Blue and Gold with seven digs. Canisius will be back in action Oct. 28, when the team hosts Iona in another MAAC match. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
