The Canisius College volleyball team used a balanced offensive attack to knock off St. Francis (Pa.) 3-0 in the Koessler Athletic Center on Wednesday night. The win moves the Griffs to 2-8 overall, while the Red Flash falls to 1-19 overall. The Blue and Gold snapped a four-match losing streak with scores of 30-20, 30-19, 30-23.
Junior Jennifer Debee (Boca Raton, FL) led the Griffs with a game-high 11 kills in the winning effort. Freshman Kim Hoffman (West Babylon, NY) was credited with nine kills and a team-high 10 digs, while fellow freshman Christina Wildes (Long Beach, NY) was credited with nine kills and nine digs. The Griffs registered 10 service aces as well. Hoffman led the squad with four, while Wildes and junior Kelly Sieber (Depew, N.Y) were credited with three aces each. Sieber also had a game-high 33 assists and eight digs.
Sophomore Nicole Lucie (Lancaster, N.Y.) and freshman Nicole Boucher (East Meadow, N.Y.) each had six kills in the win. Lucie was credited with eight digs, while Boucher had seven.
Freshman Nicole Hyer (Pickerington, OH) had a team-high nine kills and nine digs, while sophomore setter Kelly Snee (Rocky River, OH) led the Red Flash with 27 assists.
The Griffs will next be in action Oct. 13, as they travel to cross-town rival Niagara. The Griffs dropped a match to Niagara Sept. 19, by a 3-1 count in a non-conference affair. The encounter with the Purple Eagles will be the Griffs' first MAAC match this season. The Blue and Gold will not be back in the Koessler Athletic Center until Oct. 27-28, when the team hosts league rivals Fairfield and Iona.
