The Canisius College volleyball team dropped to 1-8 overall with a 3-1 loss to Niagara in non-conference match-up inside the Koessler Athletic Center. The Griffs lost by scores of 30-27, 28-30, 22-30, 23-30. The win improves the Eagles record to 2-4 overall.
Niagara freshman Melanie Wilson (Amherst, NY) had a career-high 21 kills and 14 digs in the winning effort, while sophomore Valerie Arnone (East Aurora, NY) was good for 12 kills and 12 digs. Senior Laurie Haefner (Pittsford, NY) was credited with a game-high 18 digs, while also adding a game-high 42 assists.
Canisius was led by freshman Christina Wildes (Long Beach, NY) who compiled 19 kills and 15 digs. Freshman Kim Hoffman (West Babylon, NY) was good for 11 kills and 13 digs while junior setter Kelly Sieber (Depew, NY) had a team-high 35 assists. Freshman Nicole Boucher (Eastmeadow, NY) had a career high 14 digs as well.
The Griffs will next be in action next Wednesday night as they travel to Brock University in Canada for an exhibition match. The Griffs will return to the floor on Oct. 10 when the squad hosts St. Francis (Pa.) at 7:00 p.m. in the Koessler Center.
