Volleyball drops two games in CSU Invitational

The Canisius College volleyball team dropped a pair of games on Saturday in the Cleveland State Invitational. The Golden Griffins dropped three straight games to the host Viking of Cleveland State in their first match of the day by scores of 25-30, 10-30, 15-30. The Griffs then lost in three straight to Oakland (MI) University by scores of 28-30, 25-30, 22-30. Canisius drops to 1-7 on the season after dropping all three matches played in Cleveland. The Griffs were knocked off by Towson University in four games on Friday night by scores of 28-30, 30-26, 15-30, 23-30.

In the first game of the day, the Griffs had a tough time scoring points. The freshman duo of Christina Wildes (Long Beach, NY) and Kim Hoffman (West Babylon, NY) had four kills respectively, with Hoffman adding seven digs. Junior setter Kelly Sieber (Depew, NY) led the Griffs with 12 assists and four service aces. Senior Aimee Claypool (Dayton, Ohio) was also credited with seven digs in the losing effort.

In the second match of the day, Wildes led the Blue and Gold with 14 kills and nine digs. Hoffman had eight kills and 14 digs, while adding a game-high five service aces. Sieber was credited with 32 of the team's 35 assists, and freshman Nicole Boucher (Eastmeadow, NY) had six kills, three aces and four digs.

Canisius will be back in action next Friday when the team travels to the Robert Morris Tournament to face off with host Robert Morris, Elon University and St. Francis (PA).
