UB's Late Rally Downs Volleyball in the WNY Holiday Inn Tourney

Canisius held a 2-0 lead after the match’s first two games. Sophomore Christina Wildes led the Blue and Gold with a team best 16 kills on 52 attempts. Fellow sophomore Kim Hoffman posted 15 kills, while freshman Leigh Launhardt and senior Jennifer DeBee had 12 and 10 kills, respectively.
Buffalo’s Molly Schrantz has 19 kills in the winning effort. She was also credited with a game-high 22 digs. Katie Weekly posted 12 kills and four service aces, while teammate Alexis Bouie was credited with 11 kills.
Canisius setter Jackie Reed was credited with 49 assists to lead the Griffs. UB’s Amy Brown dished out a game-high 59 assists. Canisius senior Kelly Sieber posted 21 digs for the Blue and Gold in the losing effort.
Cleveland State scored a 3-2 (30-20, 20-30, 24-30, 30-25, 15-11) win over Stony Brook in the fourth game of the tournament. Cleveland State’s LaToya Byerly led the Vikings with 18 kills in the win. Danielle MacKnight and Rachel Goldsmith had 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Cleveland State improves to 11-3 with the win.
For the Seawolves, who fall to 10-5, Michelle Iafigliola posted a game-high 19 kills. Three other Stony Brook players had double-digit kills, led by Jamie Bouyer and her 14 kills on 28 attempts.
Canisius will return to action next Friday, Sept. 27, in the Koessler Athletic Center when the Griffs play host to Marshall. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
