Canisius College volleyball player Christina Wildes has been named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 22. Wildes is the first Canisius player this season to be honored by the MAAC.
The sophomore outside hitter was named to the Western New York Holiday Inn Volleyball Invitational All-Tournament team after collecting a team-best 53 kills in four matches this past weekend. Wildes nailed a game-high 21 kills in the Golden Griffins’ 3-1 loss to Youngstown State Sept. 20 and then tied a school record for service aces in a three-game match with a career-best seven aces in the Blue and Gold’s 3-0 loss to Stony Brook. Wildes leads the Griffs in kills per game, averaging 3.48 kills per contest. She is ranked sixth in kills in the conference.
Canisius will return to action Sept. 20-21, with two matches in the Koessler Athletic Center against non-conference opponents. The Griffs will host Marshall Friday, Sept. 20, at 7p.m., and then play host to the Binghamton Bearcats Saturday, Sept. 21. Game time is set for 5 p.m.
