The Canisius College volleyball team will open the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference portion of its schedule this weekend with games at Loyola (Oct. 12) and Rider (Oct. 13). The Griffs enter conference play with a 4-13 record.
Sophomore Christina Wildes leads the team and is ranked eighth in the MAAC in kills per game, averaging 3.60 kills per contest. Freshman Leigh Launhardt, who was named the MAAC Rookie of the Week Oct. 7, leads the Griffs and is ranked second in the conference with 30 service aces, while also leading the Blue and Gold with a .265 hitting percentage.
Senior Kelly Sieber is the team's leader in defensive digs, averaging 3.83 digs per contest. She ranks fifth overall in the conference in that category as well. Junior setter Jacie Reed, who posted a career-high 52 assists last week in the win over St. Francis (Pa.), averages a team-best 9.47 helpers per game.
The Griffs four wins this season match the program's win total from a year ago. Canisius is set to play its next four matches in the Koessler Athletic Center starting Oct. 19-20, with home matches against local rival Niagara and non-conference foe Syracuse.
