The Canisius College volleyball team snapped a three-match losing streak Sunday morning with a 3-0 (30-14, 30-15, 30-25) win over visiting Saint Peter’s College in the Koessler Athletic Center. The win improves Canisius to 9-18 overall, 5-4 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, while Saint Peter’s falls to 6-19 overall, 3-6 in conference play.
Four Golden Griffins posted double digit kills, led by freshman Leigh Launhardt and her team-high 13 kills. Launhardt also added five service aces and five block assists in the win. Sophomores Christina Wildes and Kim Hoffman had 12 and 11 kills, respectively. Senior Jennifer DeBee had 10 kills in her final home game as a Golden Griffin. Fellow senior Kelly Sieber had a team-high 15 digs while junior setter Jackie Reed broke the 1,000 assist mark for the 2002 season with 35 assists.
Canisius jumped out to early leads in the first two games and had just six attack errors in those games. The Griffs trailed 17-12 in game three before closing out the match with a 30-25 win. Launhardt led the Blue and Gold in the final game with seven kills.
Ludmila Kechina led Saint Peter’s with her game-high 20 kills. Alma Qose had a team-best 18 assists in the losing effort for the Peahens.
Canisius will travel to the Disney Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Fla., to take part in the 2002 MAAC Volleyball Championships Nov. 17.
