Sieber Named Co-Defensive Player of the Year

Canisius volleyball senior Kelly Sieber (Depew, N.Y.) was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Co-Defensive Player of the Year, and four Griffs earned All-Academic Honors at the awards banquet at the Disney Sports Complex Monday night.

Sieber played in 113 games for the Griffs and tallied 464 digs. A setter for three seasons before moving to libero this year, she also posted 101 assists, moving her into second on the Canisius all-time list. Sieber earned all-academic honors as well and has a 3.27 grade point average in communications.

Nicole Boucher (East Meadow, N.Y.), Kate Calderone (Smithtown, N.Y.) and Nicole Lucie (Lancaster, N.Y.) joined Sieber on the All-Academic Squad. Boucher tallied 70 kills and 29 total blocks in 77 games. The sophomore has a 3.21 grade point average in accounting.

Calderone saw action in 27 games and was credited with 16 kills and eight total blocks. The junior has a 3.30 grade point average in physical education.

Lucie posted 98 kills, 32 total blocks and 87 digs in 93 games. The junior physical education major has a 3.59 grade point average.

Canisius plays its final match of the season Tuesday as the Griffs take on Iona for fifth place at the MAAC Tournament in Orlando, Fla.
