The Canisius College volleyball team moved to 4-7 overall in 2003 with wins over Quinnipiac and Binghamton Saturday afternoon in the 2003 Binghamton University Tournament. The Golden Griffins dropped Quinnipiac 3-0 (30-13,31-29,30-22) in the day's first match and then knocked off the host Bearcats 3-1 (28-30,30-28,30-27,30-25).
In the Blue and Gold's win over Binghamton, four different Canisius players posted double digit kills, led by junior Christina Wildes' game-high 21. Freshman Mary Boller was credited with a career best 16 kills, while Kim Hoffman and Leigh Launhardt added 15 and 11 kills, respectively.
Senior Nicole Lucie and freshman Nicole Phillips each posted 12 digs in the winning effort. Senior setter Jackie Reed collected a season-high 62 assists against Binghamton, one assist shy of tying her carrer-high of 63, a mark she set last season in a loss at Loyola.
In the first match of the day, Launhardt led the way for Canisius with 10 kills and two block assists. Hoffman had eight kills and 11 digs, while Wildes posted seven kills and 13 digs. Reed posted 31 assists and five service aces in the win over the Bobcats.
The two wins on Saturday marks the first time this season Canisius has won back-to-back matches. The last time Canisius scored two consecutive wins was Nov. 18-19, 2002 in the MAAC Tournament.
