Volleyball Defeats St. Francis (Pa.) for Fourth-Straight Win

The Canisius College volleyball team moved to 10-9 overall in 2003 with a 3-0 (30-17,30-20,30-23) win over St. Francis (Pa.) Saturday night in the Koessler Athletic Center. The Golden Griffins have won four-straight matches, the first time the program has run off four consecutive wins since the 1997 season.

Junior Kim Hoffman posted match-highs with 12 kills and 16 digs. Fellow junior Christina Wildes scored 10 kills and eight digs, while freshman Mary Boller pounded eight kills. Sophomore Leigh Launhardt posted five kills on 18 attack attempts, a service ace, two solo blocks and three block assists.

Canisius hit .243 as a team for the match, while holding St. Francis (Pa.) to a .047 hitting percentage for the contest. Saint Francis (Pa.) junior Nichole Hyer led the way for the Red Flash with eight kills, four service aces and nine digs. St. Francis (Pa.) fell to 3-15 with the loss.

The Blue and Gold will return to action Oct. 11-12, with two road games. The Griffs will open the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference portion of their schedule Oct. 11, at Saint Peter’s before meeting defending conference champion Manhattan Oct. 12, in Riverdale, N.Y.
