Hot Hitting Pushes Volleyball Past MAAC Rival Loyola

The Canisius College volleyball team posted a .322 hitting percentage en route to a 3-0 (30-21,30-21,30-22) win over Loyola College Sunday in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference volleyball action Sunday afternoon in the Koessler Athletic Center. The win improves the Golden Griffins to 12-11 overall and 2-2 in MAAC play, while the Greyhounds fell to 2-20 overall and 1-2 in conference action.

Three Canisius players posted double-digit kills, led by junior Kim Hoffman and her team-high 15 kills on 23 attack attempts. Fellow junior Christina Wildes was credited with 11 kills and 12 digs, while sophomore Leigh Launhardt hit .667 for the day with 12 kills on 18 attack attempts. Senior setter Jackie Reed posted a match-high 41 assists in the win.

Loyola’s Susanna Leffers had a team best 15 kills and two service aces, while teammate Becky Corb posted 12 kills and nine digs in the losing effort. Loyola hit .142 as a team its second consecutive loss.

Canisius has now won two-straight matches against conference opponents after losing twice Oct. 11-12, at Saint Peter’s and Manhattan. The team’s 12-wins this season passes the program’s entire win total for 2002.

The Blue and Gold will return to action Oct. 25, at home against Marshall University in the team’s final non-conference match of the season. Game time in the Koessler Athletic Center is set for 2 p.m.
