Volleyball Knocks Off Marshall

Mary Boller posted 11 kills and five block assists, and Jackie Reed was credited with 49 assists for the Golden Griffins. Libero Nicole Phillips led all players with 17 digs.
Tracey King had 21 kills to lead Marshall and tallied 15 assists. Isabell Anderer posted 20 kills and 16 digs, while Amber Sims added 10 kills. Thundering Heard setter Katie Stein had 56 assists.
With Canisius leading 14-13 in the fifth game, Reed and Boller blocked an Anderer attack attempt to give the Griffs the win. Canisius opened the game by jumping out to a 6-2 lead with the help of a Wildes kill and a service ace from Nicole Lucie. Marshall fought back to tie the score 10-10 on kills from Sims and Katie Stein.
Marshall rolled to a 30-25 win in the first game. With the scored tied 25-25 in the second game, Marshall had a service error and two attack errors to give Canisius a 28-25 cushion. The Thundering Herd battled back to make the margin 28-27, but Kate Calderone and Wildes tallied consecutive kills to give the Griffs the 30-27 win.
Canisius opened up a 25-21 lead in the third game after a Hoffman kill. Marshall cut the margin to 27-24 before three straight hitting errors gave the Griffs a 30-24 win.
The Thundering Herd opened up a 15-9 lead in the fourth game and never looked back. The Griffs made a late run as consecutive Hoffman kills cut the margin to 27-25, but Canisius would get no closer.
The Blue and Gold returns to conference action in its next match. The Griffs will travel to Niagara for a 7 p.m. showdown in the Gallagher Center Oct. 29.
