The Canisius College volleyball team used 19 total blocks and capitalized on 38 Siena College attack errors en route to a 3-0 (30-23,30-20,30-27) conference win Sunday afternoon in Loudonville, N.Y. The win was the Golden Griffins' sixth-straight and moved the team to 16-11 overall, 5-2 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action. The loss dropped Siena to 5-20 overall and 2-7 in conference action.
Junior Christina Wildes scored 11 kills on 43 attack attmepts and posted a team-high 16 digs in the winning effort. Sophomore Leigh Launhardt had nine kills, while senior setter Jackie Reed was credited with 27 assists.
Canisius' team defense was a key in the conference win, as five different players were credited with at least one block assist. Freshman Mary Boller scored a career-high five block assists, while Launhardt was credited with a solo block and four block assists. Kim Hoffman recorded four block assists, while senior Nicole Lucie added three block assists and 13 digs for the Blue and Gold.
Siena's Christie Gustafson had a match-high 16 kills in the loss for Siena. As a team, the Saints hit .069 and were called for 38 attack errors in the three-game match.
The six consecutive wins is a new program record. In addition to winning six-in-a-row, the Griffs have won 10 of their last 12 and 14 of their last 18 matches since Sept. 13.
Canisius will return to action Nov. 8, at home against conference rival Iona. Game time in the Koessler Athletic Center is set for 1 p.m.
