The Canisius College volleyball team posted its second-straight win by dropping visiting Manhattan College 3-0 (30-24, 30-18, 30-27) Sunday afternoon in the Koessler Athletic Center. The Golden Griffins improved their record to 10-13 overall and 3-3 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action, while the Lady Jaspers slipped to 5-21 overall and 1-4 in league play.
Canisius senior Kim Hoffman posted 16 kills and 16 digs to lead the Griffs to the victory, the team’s second win over Manhattan this season. Sophomore Mary Boller pounded down 13 kills on 22 attack attempts to go along with four digs and four block assists, while teammate Emily McNabb (right) posted a career-high nine kills and four block assists in the winning effort.
Manhattan’s Maggie Pfeifer hit .344 with 12 kills to lead the way for the Lady Jaspers. Teammate Megan O’Dorisio added 11 kills and 14 digs in the losing effort. Setter Lori Bambauer registered a team best 34 assists for Manhattan.
Canisius hit .309 as a team and finished the three-game match with eight-team blocks, while holding Manhattan to a .211 team hitting percentage. Canisius senior Christina Wildes posted seven kills and a match-high 23 digs for the Blue and Gold, while freshman setter Lauren Lackovich was credited with a match-high 43 assists. Canisius’ win over Manhattan in Buffalo was the program’s first since Oct. 24, 1992.
The Griffs will return to action with two MAAC matches at Rider and Loyola Nov. 6-7. The Griffs will play at Rider Nov. 6, in Lawrenceville, N.J. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
