Sophomore setter Lauren Lackovich dished out a match-high 56 assists for the Blue and Gold, which hit a season best .315 as a team in the win. Hayes collected 12 digs to go with her 12 kills, while sophomore libero Jess Stackhouse led all players with 21 digs for the Griffs. Freshman Brittany Gerde added nine kills, three assists and two block assist in the winning effort for Canisius.
Colgate had four player post double figures in the kills category, led by Katrina Zawojski and her team-high 18 kills on 35 attempts. Sheila Giovannini and Marryl Pohl added 15 kills apiece in the losing effort for Colgate.
The Griffs took the first two games of the match before the Raiders scored a 31-29 win in game three. In the fourth and final game of the day, the host Griffs jumped out to an early 12-1 lead and never looked back. The Griffs posted 10 service aces in the victory, led by Stackhouse and freshman Sarah Podlesh, who finished the day with three aces apiece.
Boller, who averaged 4.29 kills per game and hit .417 in four matches, was named to the WNY Invitational All-Tournament Team. Each participating coach selected one player from their own team to be on the all-tournament squad. Joining Boller on the all-star unit is Abby Casciato (Army), Katie Weekley (Buffalo), Jackie Adlam (Colgate), Beth McArthur (Navy), Stephanie Hopkins (Niagara) and Leah Amundson (Maryland Eastern Shore).
The Golden Griffins will return to action Friday, Sept. 16, when the team takes on St. John’s in the first match of the Bucknell Invitational, hosted by Bucknell University. The Blue and Gold will also play the host Bison and Coppin State in the four-team field.
