St. John's jumped out early on the Canisius College volleyball team and never looked back, as the Red Storm swept the Golden Griffins 3-0 (30-20, 30-13, 30-19) Friday night in the first match of the Bucknell Invitational in Lewisburg, Pa. St. John's has now won five-straight matches and improves to 11-3 on the year, while the Griffs slip to 3-5.

St. John's outside hitter Shameka Mitchell collected a match-high 10 kills and was credited with a match best four block assists in the win. The Red Storm's setter Cassie Brooks was good for a match-high 22 assists in the victory.

Junior Mary Boller led the way for the Blue and Gold with a team-high seven kills. Junior Aislinn Hayes had six kills and seven digs, while sophomore setter Lauren Lackovich (right) posted 16 assists. The action was Canisius' first since the team posted a 3-1 win over Colgate Sept. 4, at home.

The Griffs will return to action Saturday, Sept. 17, with a pair of non-conference matches in the Bucknell Invitational. The Griffs will meet Bucknell at noon before taking Coppin State at 2 p.m.
