Robert Morris junior Janette Schneider pounded down 16 kills, while teammate Jennifer Stambaugh added 12 kills of her own to help pace the visiting Colonials to a 3-0 (31-29, 30-27, 30-28) win over Canisius College in volleyball action Saturday afternoon in the Koessler Athletic Center. The win improves Robert Morris to 8-8 on the year, while the Golden Griffins fall to 5-10 in 2005.
Schneider posted a .667 attack percentage in the three-game win with her 16 kills on 21 attack attempts and also added a block assists for the Colonials. Robert Morris setter Tawnya Storino had 44 assists, four digs, and added a solo block and a block assist.
The junior tandem of Leigh Launhardt (right) and Mary Boller led the way for the Griffs, posting 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Three Canisius players picked up seven digs in the match, led by junior Aislinn Hayes, who also had seven kills in the losing effort. Canisius sophomore setter Lauren Lackovich had 40 assists for the Blue and Gold.
Senior Megan Bell added seven kills and six digs to Robert Morris’ effort, while Cyndi Dunslow was good for a match-high five service aces. As a team, the Colonials hit .254, with Canisius posting a .236 attack percentage.
The Griffs closed out the day with a 3-2 (30-32, 30-15, 30-24, 30-32, 15-7) win over Ryerson University in an exhibition match. Launhardt had 21 kills, two solo blocks and five block assists, while Boller added 21 kills, a solo block and six block assists. Freshman Morgan Ammons had 10 kills and five block assists, while Hayes was credited with 17 kills in the victory.
The Griffs will return to action Sunday, Oct. 2, at home when the team plays host to St. Francis (Pa.). Game time is set for 1 p.m., in the Koessler Athletic Center.
