Canisius College sophomore libero Jess Stackhouse has been named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference’s Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced today. Stackhouse collected a total of 40 digs last weekend as the Golden Griffins went 1-1 on the road at Manhattan and Saint Peter’s. This is the second time this season the reigning MAAC Co-Defensive Player of the Year has been honored by the conference.

Stackhouse had a match-high 25 digs in Canisius’ 3-0 win at Saint Peter’s Oct. 16, to help the Griffs snap a two-match losing streak and improve to 7-12 overall and 1-1 in the MAAC. The 25 digs in the three-game win over the Peaheans moved Stackhouse into 11th place in career digs at Canisius at 728. She ranks fourth in the conference in digs per game average with 4.09 digs per game this season and has led the Blue and Gold in the digs column in 12 of the team’s 19 matches this season.

The Griffs will return home Oct. 22-23, when the team plays host to MAAC rivals Fairfield and Iona in the Koessler Athletic Center. Canisius has not played at home since Oct. 5, when the team fell in five games to Buffalo by a 3-2 score. The Griffs are 4-3 at home in 2005. Both matches are set to begin at 1 p.m.
