Godfrey, Davis Earn MAAC Weekly Awards

Godfrey posted a .568 attack percentage in the Golden Griffins’ two victories last week. Godfrey totaled 26 kills and just one error on 44 attack attempts. The 6-foot-3 middle hitter had a career-high 16 kills against the Broncs on Sunday. Godfrey is the first Canisius player to post attack percentage over .500 in consecutive MAAC matches since Leigh Launhardt on Oct. 18, 19, 2003.
Godfrey shared the award with Burgandy McCurty from Siena who averaged 4.7 kills and 3.1 digs per set to go along with three double-doubles in the Saints’ three matches last week.
Godfrey is the first Golden Griffin to be named MAAC Offensive Player of the Week since Mary Boller on Sept. 11, 2006.
Davis won the award for the fourth time and for the second consecutive week after averaging 9.88 assists, 2.50 digs and 0.75 blocks per set in the two Canisius victories. Davis had her sixth double-double of the season in the team’s 3-1 victory over Rider on Sunday, totaling 40 assists and 12 digs. On the season, Davis is averaging 8.60 assists per set and is one of two Golden Griffins to play in all 78 sets this season.
Canisius is now 13-6 on the season and is tied for second place in the MAAC with an 8-2 league record. Canisius plays three road matches in a span of five days, starting Wednesday at Niagara. The Battle of the Bridge contest is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Gallagher Center. The game will be televised locally on a tape delay basis on Time Warner 13, with air times scheduled for Thursday, at 8:30 p.m. and Sunday, at 4 p.m.
