The Canisius College volleyball team saw its five-match winning streak come to an end Saturday afternoon, in a four-set loss at Marist. The Red Foxes defeated the Golden Griffins 14-25, 25-18, 25-20, 25-22.

Three Golden Griffins recorded double-digit kills, led by 13 from sophomore Renee Lettow. Senior Brittany Gerde added 10 kills while freshman Danielle Brawn had her first career double-double with 10 digs and a career-high 10 kills. Frshman Carley Youngman recorded a career-high 21 digs.

"We lost to a much-improved Marist team today, who has played us tough in both of our matchups this season," Canisius coach Cathy Hummel said. "We're learning on the fly how to play without Morgan and need to find a better way to mesh as a unit."

The teams played a streaky first set -- with Marist winning the opening five points of the match. Canisius (14-7, 9-3 MAAC) would respond by winning 20 of 21 points, getting three aces from Sarah Podlesh, four kills from Brawn and three kills from Gerde. The teams played a closer third set, with Marist taking control early with a 6-1 run to go up 10-4. Canisius came right back by winning five of six points to make it 11-9, but that would be as close as the Griffs got with Marist winning the set on a kill by Alexandra Schultze.

Marist jumped out early in the fourth set, winning six conescutive points to build a 9-3 lead. Once again, the Griffs came right back by winning five straight points to get within one. Canisius tied the set on five occasions, but could never take the lead as the Red Foxes closed out the match.
