The Canisius College volleyball team finished its 2009 home schedule with a three-set loss to Loyola at the Koessler Athletic Center on Sunday. The Golden Griffins lost 25-18, 25-17, 27-25 and are now 11-15 overall and 8-7 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.

Junior Renee Lettow led Canisius with eight kills and also had 11 digs. Freshman Allyson Severyn had 16 digs while sophomore Janelle Davis had 23 assists. Freshman Samantha Good added three blocks while senior Kaela Glenn had three service aces.

"We've fought the battle of trying to find a consistent lineup this season," Canisius coach Cathy Hummel said, "and when we've needed leadership, we clearly haven't gotten it and unfortunately, today wasn't any different."

Loyola (12-17, 7-7 MAAC) built a sizable lead midway through each of the first two sets. In the first set, Loyola won six straight points to go up 14-7, a run that included four kills from Karlee Woodward. Canisius cut the lead to two points on three separate occasions, but could get no closer. In the second set, Canisius scored the first three points, but Loyola responded with a 10-1 run and never looked back to go up 2-0 in the match.

Canisius held the lead for the majority of the third set, going up 11-3 on a six-point run that included three consecutive service aces from Glenn. The Greyhounds would chip away at the lead and fend off two set points as Canisius was up 24-22 but couldn't close out the set. Loyola would win five of six points to win the match.

Three Loyola players had at least 13 kills in the match, led by 15 from Kathryn Dircks. Nina Camaioni had a double-double with 14 kills and 11 digs while Woodward had 13 kills and six blocks.

Canisius ends the regular season with three road matches, starting next weekend at Siena on Saturday.
