The Canisius College swimming and diving teams were handed their second dual meet loss of the season on Saturday at St. Bonaventure.

It was the second time that the men’s team fell short by less than 20 points this season, as the Bonnies topped them by a score of 129-112. The women’s team lost 149-94. Both the men and women moved to 4-2 in duals with the losses.

Sophomore Spencer Bray, who swam his way to a pair of individual victories in the 500- and 1000-yard freestyles with times of 4:52.46 and 9:49.28 respectively, led the Griffs. Bray also swam to a second place finish in the 200-yard backstroke (1:58.64).

The Griffs also received a strong performance from freshman Wyatt Sintay, who set a new personal record in the 200-yard IM with a time of 1:58.92. Sintay also claimed a victory in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:10.72).

The Canisius divers swept the top-three on both boards. Junior Eddie Quarantillo was once again the top-finisher in each event, scoring 285.37 in the 1-meter dive and a 315.07 in the 3-meter.

Freshmen Adam Bonk and Brent Carbone took second and third respectively in each event.

Senior Corey Petrie set a season best and freshman Christian Westermeier set a personal record on the afternoon. Petrie set his time in the 200-yard freestyle (1:48.39) and Westermeier bested his previous record in the 100-yard freestyle (48.68).

Not to be outdone, Canisius freshman Marissa Watroba set a personal-record of her own in the 200-yard breaststroke.  Watroba finished the event in a time of 2:29.06 which was also good for a first place finish.

Sophomore Alex Doody was also turned in an individual victory for the women in the meet. Doody finished the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:11.98, which is her season-best time in the event.

Freshman Hannah Graesser took the top-spot in the 50-yard freestyle for the third time this season. She finished the event in 24.70.

Doody and Graesser also swam on the Griffs’ 200-yard freestyle relay team that took the top-spot on Saturday. They were joined on the team by junior Marissa Oakey and senior Kelli Graber.

The Griffs will return to action next Saturday, when they travel to Colgate. The meet is scheduled for noon.

NOTES:  The men failed to finish first in any relay for the first time this season, while the women were able to keep their streak alive… The meet was the third of Canisius’ five-consecutive road meets.
