The Canisius volleyball team has announced its 2014 schedule, which features non-conference tournaments in Spokane, Washington and St. Louis as well as the 2014 MAAC Championship in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
The Golden Griffins open play at the University at Buffalo Invitational, taking on Mississippi, Lehigh and the crosstown rival Bulls. Canisius will then head to the West Coast to face Montana State, host Gonzaga and Grand Canyon State in the Gonzaga Invitational. The Griffs wrap up their non-conference tournament play in Missouri against Air Force, Saint Louis and Omaha.
Canisius opens the 18-match MAAC schedule on the road at Marist on Sept. 20, and begins its home schedule against Saint Peter’s on Sept. 27. The Griffs will host rival Niagara University on Oct. 4, in the KAC.
After traveling to Iona and Manhattan, Canisius plays in Western New York for its next five matches, which starts with a match against defending league champion Fairfield on Oct. 18. The Griffs will wrap up the regular-season series against Niagara on Oct 22. Canisius will play four of its final six regular-season matches on the road and conclude the home schedule against Siena (Nov. 8) and Marist (Nov. 9).
All 10 teams will participate in the single-elimination MAAC Championship to be held Nov. 18-20, at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
Canisius returns three starters and its libero from the 2013 team that went 11-18 with a 9-9 record in MAAC play.
