  • The Canisius College baseball team returns home to host Gannon University at the Demske Sports Complex on Sunday afternoon.
  • The Golden Griffins are playing their fifth home game of the season. Canisius will play 10 of its final 15 games at the Demske Sports Complex.
  • Canisius snapped a three-game losing streak with a come-from-behind 8-5 victory at the University of Akron on Wednesday.
  • Wednesday’s win was the ninth time in the 21 wins for the Griffs in 2013 that Canisius trailed at some point of the game.
  • The five-run deficit was also the largest overcome by the Griffs this season and was the third time Canisius has won a game where it trailed by three or more runs.
  • Canisius overcame a five-run deficit for the first time since a 6-5 win over Toledo on Feb. 18, 2011. The Griffs scored six runs in the bottom of the eighth to win their 2011 season opener.
  • Canisius improved to 17-7 in road games this season with the win in Akron. The Griffs enter the weekend ranked first in the country at the Division I level with the 17 road wins.
  • Canisius has had three winning streak of five games or longer this season. The Griffs have had 14 winning streaks of five or more games since 2008, the highest total in the conference.
  • Canisius is tied with Pittsburgh for the most wins (21) by a team in the Northeast region.
  • Three Canisius pitchers combined to throw the program’s first nine-inning no-hitter at the Division I level in an 8-0 win at Iona on March 29.


  • Canisius has won 196 games since the start of the 2008 season, the fourth-highest total in the Northeast.
  • Canisius has qualified for the MAAC Championship in each of the last six seasons, winning the MAAC regular-season title in 2008 and 2010.
  • Canisius has had eight players selected in the Major League Baseball Draft since 2008.
  • The Golden Griffins have had three All-Americans in the last five seasons.
  • Canisius has had three freshman All-Americans since 2007, including sophomore Devon Stewart following the 2012 campaign.
  • Coach Mike McRae won his 300th game on March 16. McRae has 307 wins in his career, trailing only Don Colpoys (325 wins) in the Canisius record books.


  • Canisius rallied from a 5-0 first-inning deficit to defeat the University at Akron 8-5 on Wednesday afternoon. 
  • Canisius overcame a five-run deficit for the first time since a 6-5 win over Toledo on Feb. 18, 2011. The Griffs scored six runs in the bottom of the eighth to win their 2011 season opener.
  • Sophomore Jesse Puscheck had a pinch-hit, two-RBI single in the fourth inning for what proved to be the game-winning runs. 
  • Eight Golden Griffins recorded a hit in the game and six Canisius players reached base twice in the rain-shortened, five-inning contest.
  • Eric Stolzenburg picked up his first career save by throwing a scoreless inning of relief.


  • Gannon starts the weekend with a 15-9 overall record. The Golden Knights are scheduled to play a doubleheader on Friday and Saturday against Mansfield before meeting the Griffs on Sunday.
  • Gannon is hitting .290 on the season while its opponents are hitting .273. The Golden Knights have a team ERA of 4.07 and are averaging 4.6 runs per game. Gannon has a team fielding percentage of .968.
  • Nico Baldelli leads the team with a .333 batting average. Aaron Cox has a team-best five home runs and 17 RBI. Michael Tomko is hitting .300 with three doubles, four triples, two homers and 10 stolen bases.
  • Cox is 4-0 with a 2.12 ERA in five starts. He has 48 strikeouts and seven walks in 34 innings.
  • Shayne Herold is 5-0 with three saves and a 0.91 ERA in 10 appearances. Herold has 31 strikeouts and nine walks in 29.2 innings.
