TRENTON, N.J. — The winners’ bracket game between Canisius and Rider has been suspended after the fourth inning, with the score tied at 5-5. The teams will resume the game at 2 p.m. on Saturday.

The winner of the game will advance to the championship round, which is now scheduled for a first pitch of noon on Sunday. The loser of the game will have to play No. 4 seed Siena in an elimination game on Saturday at 6 p.m.

Canisius jumped out to a 4-0 lead, taking advantage of three two-out walks from Rider starter Kurt Sowa. Sophomore Jesse Puscheck then hit an 0-2 changeup over the right-field fence for a grand slam. The Broncs came back with a two-out, two-RBI single from Nick Crescenzo in the bottom of the inning to cut the Canisius lead in half.

Canisius got one run back in the top of the fourth on a sacrifice fly from junior Ryan Coppinger. Rider would load the bases with nobody out in the bottom of the inning, using an RBI single fro James Locklear, hit by pitch to Ian Lindsay to force home a run, and an RBI single from Adam Wayman to tie the game at 5-5.

The rain intensified in the fourth inning and the tarp was brought onto the field at 11:30 p.m. The game was officially suspended just after midnight. The game started at 9:47 p.m. after the first game of the day had a rain delay of three hours.
