Junior Rohn Pierce (Lockport, N.Y.) earned his second weekly honor on Tuesday, being named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Player of the Week. Pierce was named a Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week on Monday.
Pierce outdueled All-American Carlos Rodon in the season opener as Pierce threw seven shutout innings in the team’s 3-0 win over No. 10 North Carolina State. Pierce scattered five singles, walked one and struck out six on 101 pitches. The 6-foot-3 right-hander didn’t allow a base runner past second base. After allowing the first two batters to reach, Pierce retired 21 of the next 25 batters he faced.
Pierce earned MAAC Rookie of the Week honors as a freshman on March 6.
Canisius (2-1) returns to the field for a three-game set at Charlotte. The series begins on Friday, with first pitch set for 4 p.m.
