For the second consecutive week, senior Jimmy Luppens was named the MAAC Player of the Week. The MAAC Preseason Player of the Year wins the award for the fourth time in his career.
Luppens continued his hot hitting by going 10-for-16 with five runs scored and 10 RBI in a four-game sweep of Norfolk State Luppens posted five RBI in the series-opening 17-5 win, scoring two runs and hitting two doubles. In the series finale, Luppens went 4-for-4 with three RBI as the senior reached base in 11 of his 17 plate appearances and posted a .750 slugging percentage.
The senior first baseman currently leads the team with a .435 batting average to go along with team bests in slugging percentage (.674), on-base percentage (.536), doubles (five) and RBI (19).
Canisius (10-3) has won eight straight games, the fifth-longest active winning streak in the country. The Golden Griffins will play four games this weekend at the Flyer Classic in southwest Ohio. Canisius returns to the field on Friday, at Miami University with first pitch set for 3 p.m.
