Sophomore Alex Godzak has been named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week as well as the Corvais ECAC Division I Metro-Upstate Pitcher of the Week. Godzak wins the awards for the first time in his career.

Godzak threw his first career shutout in a 10-0 victory over Manhattan in the middle game of the three-game sweep of the Jaspers. The 5-foot-10 lefty yielded three hits and struck out four to improve to 4-2 on the season. The 2013 Freshman All-American allowed only three batters to reach scoring position in the game and retired 16 of the final 19 batters he faced.

The Syracuse, N.Y. native earned MAAC Rookie of the Week honors three times as a freshman in 2013 en route to being named the MAAC Rookie of the Year.

Godzak ranks fifth in the MAAC in ERA (3.03) and second in wins (four).

Godzak gives Canisius its sixth weekly award from the conference office this season. Junior Rohn Pierce is a two-time MAAC Pitcher of the Week while senior Jimmy Luppens has been named the MAAC Player of the Week twice. Junior Connor Panas earned MAAC Player of the Week honors last week.

Canisius (18-7, 6-0 MAAC), riding an eight-game winning streak, faces the University of Akron at Canal Park on Wednesday afternoon. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
