Baseball Summer League Wrap-Up

A number of Canisius baseball players played in summer leagues across North America in the United States and Canada. Here is a wrap-up on the Golden Griffins:

Northwoods League
Jesse Puscheck hit .291 with 25 runs scored and 32 RBI for the Kalamazoo Growlers to go along with 15 walks and seven HBP. The Growlers, who wore patriotic uniforms on July 4, drew more than 2,200 fans and ranked seventh in the country in attendance.  

Brett Siddall and the Lakeshore Chinooks won the Northwoods League Championship and were named the Summer Team of the Year by Perfect Game. Siddall was named a Northwoods League Mid-Season All-Star and won the Home Run Derby also earned Postseason All-Star Honors. On the summer, Siddall hit .313 with 39 runs scored and 43 RBI to go along with 32 walks.

Connor Panas posted a .299 batting average in 50 games to go along with 10 doubles, four home runs and nine stolen bases.

New York Collegiate Baseball League
Anthony Massicci was named the NYCBL Defensive Player of the Year while posting a .945 fielding percentage at shortstop. Massicci, an NYCBL All-Star as a member of the Syracuse Salt Cats, who won their first postseason game in franchise history. Massicci set the NYCBL record (since 2006) with 46 walks and tied the record with eight triples. The Ithaca, N.Y. native also had a .354 batting average and 12 steals to go along with a .505 on-base percentage.

Christ Conley earned NYCBL All-Star honors as a member of the Wellsville Nitros. Conley hit .313 to go along with 31 walks and nine doubles in 35 games. 

Iannick Remillard went 2-2 with a 2.10 earned run average in 38.2 innings for the for the Syracuse Jr. Chiefs. Remillard also had 27 strikeouts and seven walks while throwing at least 6.2 innings in four of his last five starts.

New England Collegiate Baseball League
Mike Krische hit .259 in 31 games to go along with 13 walks and eight stolen bases for the Vermont Mountaineers.

Alaskan League
Devon Stewart went 4-0 in 15.1 innings (nine appearances) for the Anchorage Bucs to go along with a 1.17 ERA. Steward posted 11 strikeouts and recorded two saves. Stewart earned All-Alaska Baseball League honors.

Alex Godzak went 4-1 in 12 appearances (33 innings) while striking out 40 batters and walking just 14 on the summer.

Western Major Baseball League
Tyler Vavra was 1-1 with a save in 13 appearances (16 innings) for the Oakatok Dawgs. Vavra allowed only two walks during the final five weeks of the season.

The Valley League
Mike Elwood went 2-2 in 10 appearances (nine starts) and threw 51 innings for the Front Royal Cardinals, who went 26-17 on the summer.
