Canisius senior pitcher Jen Consaul tossed a complete-game two-hitter and sophomore Meghan Cuda smacked her second homer of the season as the Golden Griffins defeated Bowling Green 4-2 on the final day of the Cleveland State Dome Invitational in Cleveland, Ohio. In the nightcap, Canisius lost to the host Cleveland State Vikings by the score of 9-0 in five innings. Canisius is now 2-2 on the year.
In the first game, Consaul allowed two hits and fanned two while walking five en route to her first victory of the season. The Griffs got on the board first in the top of the third on an RBI-single by senior Valorie Nappo. In the bottom half of that frame, Bowling Green (0-4) scored twice on a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly to take a 2-1 lead. Canisius quickly regained the lead however when Cuda went deep for the second time in the team's first three games - this time with a three-run shot that also allowed teammates Michelle DelPrince and Alexis Roman to cross the plate.
Cuda went 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored. Freshman Lindsey Silfer also had two hits in the win for the Blue and Gold and sophomore Tori Nappo added a double to the winning effort.
In the day's second game, Cleveland State (3-0) jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings and never looked back as the Vikings won 9-0 in five innings. The Griffs tallied just three hits in the loss, with Silfer hitting a double.
Canisius will return to action Feb. 21, when the team takes part in the Western Kentucky Invitational in Bowling Green, Ky. The Griffs will play Miami (Ohio) and the host Hilltoppers on the first day of the three-day tournament.
