Senior Jesse Kelso (East Aurora, N.Y.) has been selected as one of 30 baseball players nationwide as a candidate for the 2014 Senior CLASS Award.

An All-MAAC First-Team selection last season, Kelso is hitting .282 for the Golden Griffins this season to go along with 11 runs scored and a team-high six stolen bases. As a junior in 2013, Kelso also earned Capital One Academic All-District I First Team honors and was eligible to selected as an Academic All-American. The biology major has a 3.52 grade point average. Kelso has participated in a number of service projects with the baseball team and helped organize a blood drive in the fall.

Kelso is the only baseball player from the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference to be selected this season.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award honors the attributes of senior student-athletes in four areas: community, classroom, character and competition. The award program is designed exclusively for college seniors who are utilizing their complete athletic eligibility, remaining committed to their university and pursuing the many rewards a senior season can bring. Premier Sports Management manages the award.

From the list of 30 candidates, a national media committee will select ten finalists for the 2014 Senior CLASS Award in late April.  Those 10 names will then be placed on the official ballot for a nationwide vote. Fan balloting will be coupled with votes from coaches and media to determine the recipient of the award.

The Canisius baseball team starts the week with a 14-7 record and on a four-game winning streak. The Golden Griffins continue their eight-game homestand this week, hosting Buffalo on Tuesday, with first pitch scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
