Buffalo starting pitcher Tori Speckman tossed a complete-game three-hitter and teammate Annissa Pinedo went 2-for-3 with a home run as the Bulls defeated Canisius 3-0 in non-conference softball action Tuesday afternoon at Nan Harvey Field. The win improved Buffalo to 13-26 on the season while the Golden Griffins slipped to 21-17 on the year.

For Canisius, senior Katie Medina, junior Valorie Nappo and freshman Bethany DeMarco all had base hits in the losing effort. Speckman fanned six Canisius hitters en route to her eighth win of the season and did not allow a Canisius base runner to reach third until the seventh inning. Canisius starter Jen Consaul took the loss in the circle for the Blue and Gold after she gave up three runs on seven hits. Her record is now 15-8 in 2013.

The host Bulls scored two runs in the bottom of the second, highlighted by a triple to right off the bat of Holly Luciano. Buffalo started its rally in the frame on a two-out double by Jessica Griffin, and she scored moments later on a Canisius error that allowed Ryleigh Fitzgerald to reach base safely. Luciano stepped to the plate and made the game 2-0 with her three-base hit before Consaul ended the inning for the Griffs by getting Karly Nevez to line out to first base.

The Bulls tacked on a single run in the home half of the sixth inning when Pinedo led off the inning with a homer to center field to give Buffalo a 3-0 advantage. In the seventh, Canisius loaded the bases with one out, but Speckman got two fly-ball outs to end the contest.

Griffin went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored for Buffalo while Luciano added an RBI to the winning effort for the Bulls, which snapped a three-game losing streak with the victory.

Canisius will return to action Wednesday, April 24, when the team hosts Buffalo in a single, non-conference game at the Demske Sports Complex. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
