Women's Soccer Weekend Preview

The Canisius College women’s soccer team is entering its final weekend of non-conference play, with a pair of home games all that remains before it begins the MAAC slate. The Griffs will host Albany Friday at 7 p.m. and Akron Sunday at noon.

Smith’s Hot Start
• Senior forward Brianna Smith has tallied five goals in seven contests, tying the fastest scoring start of her career.

• Smith scored five goals in seven games to start the 2010 season when she finished with 15 – the second most goals in program history.
• In 2012, it took 13 games before Smith scored her fifth goal. She finished the season with 11.

Tock Shines at Home
• Senior goalkeeper Megan Tock recorded a career-high 15 saves against Detroit in the Griffs’ 2-1 double overtime loss in their last home contest on Friday, Sept. 6.

• In Canisius’ three home games this year, Tock has a 1.25 GAA with 25 saves and a shutout.
• Her play thus far has improved her career GAA at home to 1.48.

 Canisius – Albany Series History
• This will be the fourth meeting between the two programs, with the Great Danes leading the all-time series 2-1.

• The teams last met in 2012 with Albany taking the contest 4-3. Current players Jenny Piaggione, Brittany Krause and Smith all scored for the Griffs.

About the Great Danes
• Albany comes in with a record of 1-4-0.

• Aubrey VanGorder, Helena Olafsdottir and Anna Seneta lead the team in scoring with one goal apiece.
• Dani Britt and Alana Brennan have split the games in net, with Britt playing three and Brennan playing two. Britt has a 3.0 GAA and one shutout in the team’s lone win.

Canisius – Akron Series History
• This is the fourth matchup with the Zips, who lead the all-time series 3-0-0.

• The teams last met in 2012, with the Zips winning 1-0.
• Junior goalkeeper Brigid St. Leger recorded a career-high nine saves in the last meeting.

About the Zips
• Akron comes into the contest with a 2-2-2 record.

• The Zips are led in scoring by Sarah Sivic and Megan Waskowski, each of whom have three goals on the year.
• Klaire Adee has all six decisions in net for Akron. She has a 1.73 GAA and a .688 save percentage this season.
