The Canisius College men’s and women’s basketball teams will appear in a combined six broadcasts on the ESPN family of networks as part of the MAAC’s broadcast agreement, which was announced today by the conference office. The men’s team will appear in four games on the ESPN networks, starting Jan. 17, at Iona on ESPNU, while the women’s team will play in two games on the ESPN platform.
The Golden Griffins will host a total of two MAAC broadcast schedule games, with the women’s team playing host to Niagara Feb. 7 on ESPN3 and the men’s team hosting Manhattan that same night. The network and game time for the men’s matchup with Manhattan will be announced by the MAAC up to 14 days prior to that contest. Additionally, the women’s team will play on ESPN3 when the Blue and Gold travels to meet Saint Peter’s Thursday, Feb. 20, with game time set for 6 p.m.
In addition to the TV games at Iona and at home with Manhattan, the men’s team will play televised games at Niagara (Feb. 14) and at Manhattan March 2. The game at Manhattan, which is the regular-season finale for both squads, will tipoff at 4:30 p.m., on ESPN3.
The men’s program is scheduled to play a total of five games on either ESPNU or ESPN3, including the team’s first-round match-up at Rutgers in the NIT Season Tip-Off event. In all, the MAAC’s broadcast package for the 2013-14 season will feature a record 47 games, including 37 contests during the regular season, and 10 more during the MAAC Tournament in Springfield, Mass. Additionally, Canisius announced today that a total of 33 men’s and women’s games will be broadcast through the Golden Griffin Broadcast Network and MAAC.TV online in high definition.
The men’s basketball program also announced a game time change for the Griffs’ home date with Fairfield on Feb. 22. That game, the team’s final home date of the 2013-14 regular season, will tip off at 2 p.m., instead of the previously published 7 p.m.The women’s team will officially open the 2013-14 season Friday, Nov. 8, when the Griffs play host to Detroit in the Koessler Athletic Center, with tip time set for 7 p.m. The men’s team will officially open the 110th season in program history Monday, Nov. 11, when the Blue and Gold plays host to South Dakota in the Koessler Athletic Center. Game time for that contest is set for 7 p.m. Season tickets for the 26-game men’s and women’s home slate are now on sale through the Canisius Ticket Office by calling 716-888-2885 between from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday-Friday.
