Women's Soccer Heads to Monmouth

The Canisius College women’s soccer team will play its first conference game against new MAAC member Monmouth (7-1-0, 1-0-0 MAAC) on Saturday. The Griffs enter the contest coming off a 2-1 win over Rider (4-4-0, 1-1-0 MAAC) to improve to 1-1-0 in MAAC play.

Stepping Up their Scoring
• Senior midfielder Kelly McMahon and junior forward Mallory Illsley have scored three goals each this season.

• Both have tripled their career total after combining for two goals in 76 games played before this year.
• McMahon has tallied eight points in eight games, and Illsley has nine points in 11 games this year.

Tale of Two Halves
• Canisius has outscored its opponents 9-8 in the first half this season.

• They’ve shut their opponents out in seven of their 11 games this season.
• The Griffs need to do a better job of carrying their play into the second half, as they’re being outscored 15-6 after the 45th minute.

Scouting the Hawks
• Monmouth enters the contest ranked eighth in NCSAA Northeast Region poll.
• The Hawks are led offensively by Alexis McTamney, whose five goals and 11 points are both team-highs.
• Dana Costello leads the way in helpers, posting five assists on the season.
• Ashley Lewis has played every minute in net for Monmouth, sporting a 0.50 goals against average and a .833 save percentage. She also has six shutouts on the season.

Series History
• It’s been 25 years since the two programs met, having last played in the Monmouth Invitational on Oct. 29, 1988.

• Monmouth took the last meeting 2-0.
• The Griffs are 0-2-0 all-time against the Hawks.

Kickoff for the game will take place at 1 p.m. in Long Branch, New Jersey.
