The Canisius College men’s basketball program will hold “Community Day” on Monday, Oct. 28, when the Golden Griffins play host to Daemen College in an exhibition game in the Koessler Athletic Center. The evening will begin at 5 p.m., with a “Books and Basketball” clinic, hosted by members of the Canisius men’s basketball team and coaching staff, leading up to tipoff between the Griffs and the Wildcats at 7 p.m.

Boys in grades five and six from the Buffalo PAL, the Buffalo Boys Club - Youth Advantage and The Family 25 Youth Group will have the chance to meet Canisius head coach Jim Baron, Buffalo mayor Byron Brown and members of the Canisius men’s basketball team before taking part in a warm-up session and basketball skills stations. Youth members from the clinic will also take part in a scrimmage at halftime.

“The Canisius College men’s basketball program is excited to be able to host this clinic before Monday’s game against Daemen,” Baron said. “This is an opportunity for our guys to meet and work with community leaders and kids from the city of Buffalo. In addition to basketball skills, we’re going to stress to these kids that they need to take care of their school work, they need to eat right and be healthy and they need to be involved in the right things. Being able to give back to the city of Buffalo is something we take a great deal of pride in.”

Canisius and Daemen will be playing for the first time in men’s basketball, and the exhibition game on Oct. 28, will be Canisius’ first of two dress rehearsals before opening the 2013-14 campaign. The Griffs, who won 20 games last season for the first time since 2000-01, start the year at home Nov. 11, when the team plays host to South Dakota.

Tickets for Monday’s exhibition game are on sale through the Canisius ticket office by calling 716-888-2885 or by clicking here. Season tickets for the 26-game men’s and women’s home basketball schedules are also on sale through the ticket office. Ticket office hours are Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., daily.
