The Canisius College rowing team added its fifth recruit to the 2014 recruiting class on Friday, head coach Joel Furtek announced.

Jade Carlson (Waxhaw, N.C./Charlotte Youth Rowing) signed her National Letter of Intent to join the Griffs on Friday, becoming the fifth to sign this week.

"We are all overjoyed to welcome Jade to the Canisius Family,” Furtek said. She brings a huge spirit and burning desire to win, coupled with an unquenchable academic thirst. She is the prototypical Griff."

Carlson is currently a team captain for Charlotte Youth Rowing, which won the 2013 Head of the South Regatta. The 5-foot-8 Carlson is capable of rowing both sides and was a member of the Southeastern Junior Development team in 2011.

Carlson joins Mackenzie App, Grace Horner, Josie Sheftic, and Patti Beaulieu as members of the Griffs incoming class.
