The Canisius College hockey team returns from the holiday break to face Hockey East foes UMass Lowell and Vermont at the Sheraton/TD Bank Catamount Cup in Burlington, Vt. The Griffs face the River Hawks on Saturday at 4:05 p.m. and the host Catamounts on Sunday at 7:05 p.m.

• Canisius (5-8-1, 4-4-1 AHA) is back in action for the first time in three weeks after splitting a pair of games at Army (8-2 win and 2-0 loss).
• Senior Kyle Gibbons leads the Griffs with 13 points and eight goals.
• Senior Tony Capobianco has started 9-of-14 games in net, posting a 3.10 goals against average and .908 save percentage.

• Senior Kyle Gibbons continues to make headlines at Canisius, reaching a pair of milestones during his senior campaign.

• Gibbons is one of only six active players in the NCAA with 100 career points and 50 career goals.

• After a slow start, the Griffs are once again showing the form of their record-setting penalty kill from a year ago.
• The 11th-best unit in NCAA history last season, Canisius allowed 10 extra-man goals in its first 32 attempts (68.8 percent).
• Canisius has responded by allowing just one goal in the last 34 attempts, raising its penalty kill to 83.3 percent.

• Not only have the Griffs been dominant on the penalty kill in the last seven games but Canisius has actually outscored its opposition.
• Canisius has allowed only one power-play goal in the last seven games and 34 attempts, while scoring two short-handed tallies.
• Overall, the Griffs have four short-handed goals this season, tied for the fourth most in the country.

• The Griffs and River Hawks have played on two prior occasions with UMass Lowell owning a 1-0-1 edge.
• Both meetings between the two schools have been at in-season tournaments. The teams played to a 2-2 draw during the 2003-04 season in Buffalo, while the River Hawks claimed a 5-4 victory at Minnesota during the 2005-06 campaign.

• UMass Lowell ranks 10th in the latest national polls.
• The River Hawks are 11-5-0 this season, including a 10-2-0 mark in the last 12 games.
